Secure Eraser is a powerful and user-friendly software application designed to safeguard your privacy and protect sensitive data by securely and permanently deleting files, folders, and drives from your storage devices. It recognizes the importance of ensuring that deleted data cannot be recovered by unauthorized parties, especially when selling, disposing of, or donating computers and storage devices.

Secure Eraser uses multiple internationally recognized data erasure methods to eliminate any possibility of data recovery, offering a high level of data security.

Secure Eraser Key Features:

  • File and Folder Shredding: Secure Eraser allows you to securely delete individual files and entire folders. It employs advanced data erasure techniques to make sure that the deleted content is irretrievable.
  • Drive Wiping: You can use Secure Eraser to wipe entire hard drives, solid-state drives (SSDs), external storage devices, and other drives, ensuring that no data can be recovered from these devices.
  • Cross-Reference Elimination: Secure Eraser goes beyond standard data deletion by eliminating cross-references that could leave traces of deleted files in the allocation table of your storage device. This ensures that no remnants of data are left behind.
  • Multiple Passes: You can perform multiple overwrites of data, up to 35 times, regardless of whether you're erasing files, folders, drives, the recycle bin, or traces of internet browsing. The multi-pass approach guarantees thorough data wiping.
  • Recovery of Previously Deleted Files: Secure Eraser can securely delete files that have already been deleted in the past, ensuring that they are permanently unrecoverable. This is especially useful when dealing with files that may have been deleted but are still potentially recoverable.
  • Log and Reporting: The software provides detailed logs and reports of the erasure process, which can be requested for verification and documentation purposes. This is valuable for compliance and legal requirements.
  • User-Friendly Interface: Secure Eraser features an intuitive and easy-to-use interface, making it accessible to users of all experience levels.
  • Password Protection: Users can set up password protection to restrict access to the software, enhancing the overall security of data deletion processes.
  • Free Standard Edition: A free Standard Edition of Secure Eraser is available for personal use, offering a comprehensive solution for securely deleting data without any cost.

Multiple Data Erasure Methods:

The software offers a range of data erasure methods, including:

  • US DoD 5220.22-ME and U.S. DoD 5220.22-MECE standards.
  • German industrial standard.

Here's a quick guide on how to use it:

1. Select the data you want to erase:

There are five main options on the left-hand side of the window:

  • File & folder deletion: This option allows you to securely delete individual files and folders.
  • Drive/partition deletion: This option allows you to securely erase an entire drive or partition.
  • Free space deletion: This option allows you to securely erase any data that has already been deleted from your drives but is still recoverable.
  • Registry cleaning: This option allows you to clean up your Windows registry to improve system performance and stability.
  • System cleaning: This option allows you to clean up temporary and user-specific files from your system.

2. Choose an erasure method:

For example, "File & folder deletion":

  • Click “Add files” or “Add folder”: This will open a file explorer window where you can select the files and folders you want to erase. You can select multiple files and folders at once.
  • Select the files and folders you want to erase: Once you have navigated to the files and folders you want to erase, select them and click “Open”.
  • Choose an erasure method: From the “Security level” drop-down menu, select the erasure method you want to use. The higher the security level, the more times the data will be overwritten and the more secure the erasure will be. However, it will also take longer. For most purposes, the “High” security level is sufficient.
  • (Optional) Change the report comment: You can add a comment to the erasure report, which will be saved with the log file.
  • Click “Start deletion”: This will start the erasure process. The progress of the erasure will be displayed in the window.

Once the erasure process is complete, you will see a message that says “Deletion completed successfully”. The files and folders that you selected will have been securely erased and will no longer be recoverable.

Important notes:

  • Before erasing any data, it is important to make sure that you have backed up any important files. Once data is erased with Secure Eraser, it cannot be recovered.
  • Secure Eraser is a powerful tool that can be used to permanently erase data. It is important to use it with caution and to only erase data that you are sure you no longer need.

The free version of Secure Eraser has some limitations, such as the number of files and folders that you can erase at once. The paid version of the software has more features and no limitations.
